There are 3 kinds of wrestling events:

  1. Dual Tournament - This is when the entire team, 1 wrestler from each of the above weight classes, wrestles in the order of the weight classes, all on one mat, one right after the other. The starting weight will vary and is determined at the beginning of the tournament. Then every dual after that the next weight class will be the new starting weight class for that dual.  So  if the first dual starts at 171 lbs, the next dual will start at 180 lbs and so on for each dual. The dual tournament consist of more than 3 teams competing. The score of each individual match result is added up to obtain the team score. Scored as follows:

  2. Fall, Forfeit, Default, Disqualification - 6 team points

  3. Technical Fall (getting ahead of your opponent by 15 points ends the match) - 5 team points

  4. Major Decision (winning the match by 8 - 14 points) - 4 team points

  5. Decision (winning the match by fewer than 8 points) - 3 team points

  1. Dual - This is when the entire team, 1 wrestler from each of the above weight classes, wrestles in the order of the weight classes, all on one mat, one right after the other. In a dual, there are only 2 or 3 teams competing. Score is the same as above.

  2. Individual Tournament - This is when each wrestler, wrestles on his own. Usually, there is still a team score, however, everyone wrestles their own bracket according to weight.  Some tournaments have a 4 man bracket, an 8 man bracket or even a 16 man bracket - it depends on the size of the tournament. Each individual who places in the top 3 or 4 of the bracket, will usually receive a medal.  At some tournaments, the top teams will be given a team trophy.  Scoring: If you win, you advance to the next tier of the bracket, if/when you loose the first time, you drop to the consolation bracket if double elimination. Once you loose 2 you would be out. Each wrestlers get points for the team for advancing in the bracket and bonus points for pins, tech falls, major decision and placing in 1st - 4th place. More points are given for advancing on the winning side of the bracket as opposed to consolation side.
